Distance swimmer Katie Duggan from the Highlander Aquatic Club in Florida has verbally committed to the Michigan Wolverines, heading north from the sunny confines of Orlando.
Duggan is primarily a distance swimmer, with a good 200 backstroke as well. In yards, she’s been 4:47.3 in the 500 free, 16:33 in the 1650 free, and 1:58.68 in the 200 backstroke.
She’s also been a very good 1:48.94 in the 200 yard freestyle.
In both directions, Duggan will join areas in which Michigan is already very strong. The Wolverines have three of the best 200 backstrokers in the Big Ten in Ali DeLoof, Gabby DeLoof, and Clara Smiddy. They also have distance swimmer Gillian Ryan, who despite being just a freshman already has two U.S. Open titles under her belt and a U.S. National title in the 800 free in 2011. The Wolverines also have Hannah Moore on their roster, who is a distance freestyle and backstroke swimmer just like Duggan.
Duggan had a very good junior season that included winning the Florida 1A High School State Championship in the 500 free for Lake Highland Prep. She also dropped four seconds in the 200 backstroke as a junior, and carried that success into long course in the summer. She went lifetime bests in 13 different long course events in total in 2104.
Dont forget about freshman Hannah Moore- she is the perfect training partner as she does distance free and backstroke.
