The 2nd day of the 2024 Fran Crippen Swim Meet of Champions saw more excellent racing. The highlight of Friday night probably came in the women’s 200 fly, where Sandpipers of Nevada 18-year-old Katie Grimes put up a 2:09.22 to win. The performance comes in a second off Grimes’ career best of 2:08.20, which she swam at the World Cup stop in Athens back in October of 2023.
Sandpipers teammate Claire Weinstein, 17, would win the women’s 400 free, clocking a 4:09.88. That tine us well off Weinstein’s career best of 4:04.54, which she swam at the Pro Swim Series in Westmont last month, however, she was still able to win the race by over 5 seconds.
Cal’s Isabelle Stadden had a strong performance in the women’s 50 back, claiming victory decisively with a time of 28.29. Stadden has been as fast as 27.64 in her career.
Fellow Golden Bear Destin Lasco won the men’s 100 free with a 49.01. That time comes in a little over a second off Lasco’s 47.87 career best, which he swam last summer. Cal pro Brooks Curry put up a 49.33 to come in 2nd, while Cal freshman Keaton Jones was 3rd in 49.59. For Jones, the swim marked his first time under 50 seconds in the event.
