Katie Ledecky Breaks U.S. Open Meet Again with 1:55.47 200 Free

2021 US OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

The legendary Katie Ledecky has been on fire this week in Greensboro. Tonight, she broke the U.S. Open Meet Record for the second time today with a 1:55.47, winning by over three seconds.

Coming into this morning, the meet record stood at 1:56.24, a mark which Ledecky set back in 2019, when this meet was held at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ledecky took down that record this morning with a 1:56.06, then she shaved nearly another six-tenths of a second off of that time with tonight’s swim.

Morning splits: 27.59/29.27/29.50/29.70
Evening splits: 27.32/29.00/29.35/29.80

Compared to this morning, Ledecky went out faster and continued to swim just a couple tenths faster on each of the first three 50s, before tailing off of this morning’s pace just a tad on last 50. Still, that strategy worked, as she was nearly as fast as she was at the Olympics.

While there are a lot of factors that affect how a swimmer performs at any given meet, Ledecky’s success this week certainly seems to be a sign that shifting her training to Florida has been paying off for her. She’s now broken meet records in the 800 free, the 400 free, and the 200 free (twice) this week.

She is slated to swim the 1500 free tomorrow. That’s another event where she, unsurprisingly, holds the meet record, which she also set at the 2019 iteration of this meet.

ANY distance swimmer with aspirations of olympic gold in 24 needs to be training in FLA right now. Good luck to them if they don’t.

Slightly better than 14 year old Summer went .a few months ago . Slower than 17year old Mollie but better than herself .

That’s very 2021 .

This further proves my theory that Katie Ledecky was over trained just as much as Simone Manuel was. The difference was Katie Ledecky is so dominant that the effects were to an extent mitigated.

I think it has to do more with that she’s graduated from Stanford lol. She’s probably got less stress now

1:55 low used to be a great in-season time. But when two swimmers on the Olympic podium are swimming 1:53 then we have to redefine the scale of greatness and to call Ledecky’s tonight result a good in-season time.
Same with 100 FR. When not only world record but the Olympic one as well bacame 51 sec then 53 low should be considered a slow result now.

The only Ledecky’s finish at this meet that deserves to be noted is the one showed in 400 prelim race – 58.40 in all other races at this meet it was significantly slower. And it’s kind of strange since the 4:01 (400 prelim) is not an easy swim. So Ledecky’s speed endurance… Read more »

She’s gone 1:54 and 3:59 at plenty of tyr meets. Her 15:20 WR was literally set in 2018.
