The Iron Lady is firing on all cylinders in Doha this week.
Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu broke her 4th world record of the meet so far with a win in the 200 IM, taking down the record she set earlier this season on the World Cup Tour’s Dubai stop.
Hosszu went 2:01.86, destroying a world class field by 4 seconds and taking three tenths off her own world record. She was faster in the first three strokes than she was in Dubai, and kept things close enough on the freestyle to hang on for the record:
- Hosszu, Short Course Worlds: 26.47 fly/29.93 back/36.09 breast/29.37 free = 2:01.86
- Hosszu, Dubai World Cup Meet: 26.85 fly/30.01 back/36.33 breast/28.95 free = 2:02.13
That marks the 4th win and the 6th medal of theses games for Hosszu. She entered 10 events originally, and has won four and taken second in two. Hosszu scratched the 400 free and missed medaling in the 800, but still has finals of the 50 back and 200 free to add to her total.
Recently named FINA’s World Swimmer of the Year, Hosszu has done her best to uphold that title, and though the argument can still be made that Katie Ledecky had a better long course season, Hosszu continues to own the short course pool in Doha.
Nice work! I vote Carolina Colorado from Columbia who swam 50 back today (maybe yesterday) for category of coolest name at this meet.
We are really proud of you Katinka…
