Katrina Radke talks with Kelly Naze, Olympic Trials Qualifier in eight events, with highest finish of 18th in 200 IM. She has represented the United States on the US Junior National Team for four years. She has earned two medals (one gold for medley relay and one silver for 100 butterfly) internationally at Junior Pan Pacific Games. Kelly is from Colorado, where she swam with Colorado Stars and then the University of Denver. She is another quite versatile swimmer at Cal Berkeley, who has two state records back in Colorado – in the 100 butterfly and 100 breast stroke.

Kelly is a vibrant, positive young lady who has overcome a back injury. She shares her outlook on life, especially after the injury. She appreciates the ability to swim, and is now more motivated than ever to see what is possible for herself in her career. One never knows – with her great attitude and good work ethic, with Teri and Kristin as her coaches at Cal, and teammates to push her in practice, international trips seem very likely, and 2016?

Keep SHINING!

Iggy Lopez, Thanks for your concern about how the school is named. Yes, it is referred to in various ways: University of California at Berkeley, UC Berkeley, California, Berkeley, Cal Berkeley, Cal Bears, Golden Bears, or Cal. When I was at school there, and on USA National Team, people called it all of those things. There has never been only one way. I have personally always called it “Cal Berkeley”, and believe it is more thorough than just saying Cal (and other publications have often written out the whole school name).

With that being said, if it helps viewers like you, we will focus on calling it Cal moving forward.
All the best!
