American Kelsi Worrell was the fastest woman off the blocks in tonight’s 50 fly final at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest. She wasn’t able to hang on for a podium spot amongst the loaded field, but she finished 4th in a new American Record with a 24.48. Her time was also a new North American continental record.
Worrell’s swim took down the former American Record of 25.50, which was set by American sprinting legend Dara Torres back in the 2009 supersuit era. Worrell is now tied as the 9th fastest performer ever with Marieke D’Cruz. Tonight’s silver medalist Ranomi Kromowidjojo (25.38) became the 7th fastest performer ever, while bronze medalist Farida Osman (25.39) became the 8th fastest performer ever.
