The Maine Swimming LSC hosted 326 swimmers across 3 sites last week at its 2021 Winter Championship meet.

The even was a breakthrough for swim teams in the state, as until February 27th, Maine was limited to intrasquad meets only. With restrictions of a maximum of 50 people or 50% capacity still in play, whichever is larger, the meet was divided across three locations: the Bath YMCA, the Bangor YMCA, and the Westbrook Community Center.

Results were ultimately combined and the Kennebec Valley YMCA came away with the overall team title.

That was thanks in large part to a dominating performance by their women’s team. Coastal Maine Aquatics led the boys’ scoring.

One individual LSC Record was broken at the meet, when Caden LaPlante of the Mid-Maine Dolphins swam a 28.93 in the 50 yard fly to break his own 9-10 Maine Record of 29.07. LaPlante’s time counts as the 4th-fastest by a 10 & under nationally this season.

While most of the racing was focused on individual events, teams were allowed to swim relays as time trials. That resulted in a pair of LSC Records.

In the 15-18 age group, the DEFY mixed 200 medley relay team of Dasha HerringtonNick PartridgeKristy Barry, and Sean Hill combined for a time of 1:43.22. That broke both the 15-18 and Open age group LSC records in the event which were previously a 1:43.52 set by LRSC.

In the 13-14 mixed 200 medley relay, Coastal Maine Aquatics’ relay of Hope TaylorCormac McKenney, Lucy Shaw, and David Steinbrick combined for a 1:48.90, which cut almost 20 seconds off the old LSC Record.
