Kensey McMahon, Alfonso Mestre Named SEC Swimmers of the Week

Men’s Swimmer of the Week:

Alfonso Mestre, Florida

Mestre, a senior from Pottstown, Pa., earned a pair of individual wins in the victory over No. 13 Tennessee. Mestre touched the wall first in the 500 free with an NCAA B-cut time of 4:21.16 and in the 1000 free with a time of 9:04.97. He also swam the third leg (44.04) of the 400 free relay (2:59.17) that finished third.

Men’s Co-Divers of the Week:

Skip Donald, Florida

Donald, a senior from The Woodlands, Texas, placed first on the 1-meter springboard against No. 13 Tennessee with a final score of 349.12. Donald captured third place in the 3-meter with a final score of 384.83.

Victor Povzner, Texas A&M

Povzner, a junior from Toronto, Ontario, swept the springboard events in the win over TCU with a final score of 427.88 in the 1-meter and 436.65 in the 3-meter. In the Aggies’ win over Kentucky, Povzner placed third in the 1-meter (298.43) and sixth in the 3-meter (312.60).

Men’s Freshman of the Week:

Josh Liendo, Florida

Liendo, a freshman from Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, posted an NCAA B-cut time to win the 50 free (19.34) against No. 13 Tennessee. Liendo also swam the second leg of the winning 400 free relay (2:52.49/42.38) and the anchor leg of the second-place 200 medley relay (1:26.61/18.72). He closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 100 fly with a time of 47.39.

Women’s Swimmer of the Week:

Kensey McMahon, Alabama

McMahon, a graduate student from Jacksonville, Fla., set pool records in both the 1,000 freestyle (9:41.86) and 500 freestyle (4:46.15) and added a win in the 200 butterfly (1:56.97) to help her team earn the win at LSU. McMahon’s winning 200 butterfly time of 1:56.97 is a career-best mark and ranks her fifth all-time at Alabama.

Women’s Diver of the Week:

Brooke Schultz, South Carolina

Schultz, a graduate student from Fayetteville, Ark., swept both springboard events at Duke with a final score of 344.48 on the 1-meter (pool record) and 353.55 on the 3-meter. At North Carolina, Schultz took first place in the 1-meter with a score of 325.58 and placed third in the 3-meter with a score of 346.80.

Women’s Freshman of the Week:

Betsy Wizard, Arkansas

Wizard, a freshman from Northampton, England, broke a pool and school record in the 200 fly in the win over Liberty with her NCAA B-cut time of 1:54.33. Wizard was a part of the winning 400 free relay (3:18.80/49.74) and was runner-up in the 500 free (4:52.14).
