The Kentucky Wildcats mixed things up in their lineup on Friday as they recorded a win over Cincinnasti on the road. Reigining 200 back NCAA champ Danielle Galyer wasn’t entered in the individual backstrokes, instead swimming butterfly and freestyle. Galyer swam to victory in the 500 free, posting a 4:58.55 to out-touch teammate Kendal Casey (4:58.63). She also won the 100 fly in 55.96.

While Danielle Galyer wasn’t in the 200 back this time around, her sister, freshman Ali Galyer, stepped up to the plate in the event. Galyer dominated the event, touching the wall in 1:58.51 to finish 5 seconds ahead of Cincinnati’s Natalie Obando (2:03.84).

Butterflier Kyle Higgins took on the 500 free on the men’s side, posting the only sub-4:30 time. His 4:28.07 gave him a lead of over 2 seconds ahead of Cincinnati’s Chris Bready (4:31.07). Higgins also won his signature 200 fly, rolling to a 1:48.05. Additionally, he delivered a 2nd place finish in the 200 free, clocking a 1:40.11 behind teammate Sean Gunn (1:39.16).

CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati swimming and diving team hosted the University of Kentucky in its final dual meet of the season on Friday night at the Keating Aquatic Center. The women’s team lost to the Wildcats by a score of 184-116 while the men fell 216-84.

// SENIOR CELEBRATION
The Bearcats honored the careers of 11 seniors prior to the start of the match, including Connor Davis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson), Tyler Roehr (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove), Ludovico Corsini (Milan, Italy/Giulio Casiraghi), Zachary Wolcott (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood), Shea Hanley (Indianapolis, Ind./Indianapolis), Andrea Bartel (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid), Gege Huffner (Reunion Island, France/Font Romeu), Emma Gresser (Akron, Ohio/Richfield Revere), Jacqueline Keire (Burlington, Ontario/Nelson) and Samantha Wolkoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore).

// KEIRE KEEPS WINNING
Keire picked up her 23rd and 24th individual wins of the season in the 200 and 100 freestyle. She also anchored a pair of relay teams to victories, starting off the meet with a first-place finish in the 400 medley relay and ending with a win in the 200 freestyle relay.

// BREASTSTROKE BEST STROKE
The Bearcats breaststrokers put on a show against the Wildcats compiling three victories and seven overall podium finishes in four events. Junior Kennedy Herbert (Green, Ohio/Green) kicked things off with a win in the women’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:03.74 while Corsini and sophomore Zach Hostoffer (Highland Heights, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) went 1-2, respectively, in the men’s 100 breaststroke race with times of 56.15 and 56.60. In the 200 event, sophomore Dee Sopapong (Tampa, Fla./Wharton) took second for the women in a time of 2:18.19 while sophomore Carlie Perretta (Canton, Ohio/Perry) was third in 2:22.60. Roehr won the men’s 200 breaststroke in 2:04.02 while freshman teammate Macon Graves (Brownsboro, Ala./Pope John Paul II) was right behind for third in 2:04.32.

// RELAY WINNERS
The women’s team captured two relay victories in 400 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Keire anchored both races while sophomore Natalie Obando (Herndon, Va./Towson), Herbert and freshman Simone Palomo (Vargas, Venezuela/Los Corales) joined in on the medley relay and junior Lindsey Niehaus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton), freshman Michaela Wheeler (Loami, Ill./Home School) and junior Sara Wanasek (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) swam the freestyle relay.

The Cincinnati divers earned two podium finishes on the day as sophomore Louis Hunt (Lakeside Park, Ky./Covington Catholic) placed third for the men’s 3 meter competition and Wolcott was third on the men’s 1 meter.
