American Kevin Cordes had a breakout season in 2015 winning a silver in the 200 breaststroke and a bronze in the 50 breaststroke at the World Championships in Kazan. In the past Cordes has experienced tremendous success in both short course yards and meters.
He won the 100 and 200 breaststroke at 2012, 2013 and 2014 NCAA Division I Championships, setting American records in both events in 2013 and 2014. Cordes also holds the American records for both events in short course meters, which he set at the 2013 Duel in the Pool.
This summer was the first time he has earned an individual medal at a major international competition.
Over the last six months, in an attempt to improve his performances in the 50 meter tank, Cordes has travelled to the University of British Columbia to train with legendary breaststroke coach Jozsef Nagy.
We caught up with Cordes at the end of his last one week stint at UBC.
Didn’t Cody Miller break one of his SCM records at the Dual in the Pool this year? I could be mistaken…
Team Lopez Relay:
Back: Ryan Murphy
Breast: Kevin Cordes
Fly: Joseph Schooling
Free: Santo Condorelli
This team could probably get a Silver in the Olympics.
Caeleb Dressel could also swim the freestyle. I see him going 47 mid this summer
I can’t wait to see what Kevin Cordes is going to do this year. He has already gone 207 in the 200 breast. Sergio is such a good coach and as Cordes adapts more to long course the possibilities are exciting.
