Note: SwimMAC Carolina’s 17-18’s were about a tenth faster on Sunday evening in Charlotte. We’ll leave it to USA Swimming to determine whose swim came first, though by time zones it was probably SwimMAC’s.
The women of the King Aquatic Club, the home team at this weekend’s Federal Way sectional meet, have been swimming very well, and they ended their meet with a bang and a new National Age Group Record in the 400 yard medley relay. They put in a 3:37.94 to close the meet, which breaks the old 17-18 record of 3:39.21, set by the Minnesota-based Aquajets in 2011 (a relay that was led off by Rachel Bootsma). The team consisted of, with splits:
- Hannah Weiss (51.90)
- Carolyn McCann (1:00.91)
- Kenna Ramey (54.79)
- Morgan Ginnis (50.34)
That leadoff for Weiss was a personal best by six-tenths of a second – her previous fastest split of 52.51 was done in the individual 100 back final at this same meet. Almost the same foursome holds the National Age Group Records in both the 200 yard and 200 meter medley relays, with the only difference being that Heidi VanderWel was swimming the fly leg on both of those relays instead of Ramey. The current senior has had a great 18 months of improvement in the 100 fly: she was only a 1:01 headed into her junior year of high school.
