Russia’s Kliment Kolesnikov has lowered his own junior world record in the 200 back for the second time in as many days, sneaking .01 under his semifinals time to go 1:55.14 in the final.
Kolesnikov already owned the record coming into this meet, having gone 1:55.49 at Russian Nationals back in the spring. He was a casual 1:56.74 in heats yesterday morning, qualifying fourth, then came back at night to roll to a 1:55.15, shattering his old record.
Then in finals, Kolesnikov found a way to sneak under that mark yet again. Interestingly enough, he finished fourth in heats, semifinals and in the final, just missing the medals a tenth back from American Jacob Pebley.
Kolesnikov was born in the year 2000, which means he’s actually eligible to continue breaking this junior world record until the end of 2018. That gives him 17 months to keep pushing this mark downwards.

He was out a touch faster in the opening 50 tonight, but actually took a little speed off his middle 100. That allowed him to come back three tenths faster than semifinals to break the record.
