4th at the halfway mark in the final in 26.36, Koseki was the only swimmer in the field to come home sub-30 (29.77), as he overtook Italian Fabio Scozzoli to win the bronze, just 0.12 behind gold medal winner Cameron van der Burgh (56.01) of South Africa. van der Burgh set a new Championship Record with that win, and both Ilya Shymanovich (56.10) and Koseki were also under the old mark of 56.29 held by Brazilian Felipe Franca da Silva.

Prior to setting that 56.29 Asian Record in October, Koseki held the record at 56.34.

In the all-time rankings, Koseki jumps from tied for 7th to 5th in the event, with Shymanovich moving past him from 10th to 4th.
