Los Angeles has agreed to host the 2028 Olympics, opening up the 2024 Games to be hosted in Paris, multiple news outlets report.
USA Today references an anonymous source close to the situation, who says the Los Angeles bid has reached a deal with the International Olympic Committee to host the 2028 Olympics. The 2024 bid process has been narrowed down to just Los Angeles and Paris, with recent chatter suggesting the IOC could award one city the 2024 Games and the other the next Olympic cycle.
LA 2024 says there will be a “special announcement” coming from Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti tonight at 5 PM local time – that’s 8 PM for those on the U.S. east coast.

LA previously hosted the 1984 and 1932 Olympics. If the deal is announced tonight, it will mark the first time the Summer Olympics have returned to North America in more than two decades. The 1996 Atlanta Olympics were the last Summer Olympics to be held in North America.
The IOC won’t officially announce the 2024 host until September, but an LA 2028 deal could essentially make the 2024 and 2028 decisions several months early.

At the last LA Games an Olympic decathlon champion from a minority group (African American) lit the flame, so there is definitely a precedent. I would go for Phelps though 🙂
I know Flo Manaudou said that if he makes a comeback, it would be for 2024, so this lines up well for that to be the eventuality.
This is a win-win for LA. They get more money out of the IOC. It gives the city and organizations more time to build some of the “existing structure” to be used to host the games. It also gives them time to get the new transport system into effect and working smoothly.

2024 and 2028 will be awarded at the same time- there were 2 bidders for 2024/28- Paris and LA- the IOC told them to go off and work out who goes first.
The have agreed on Paris 2024 (100 year anniversary from their last Games) and LA 2028.
Actually, 2024 will be awarded slightly before 2028. Technically speaking, it wouldn’t make sense to announce them at the same time.

I thought that the swimming competitions were only to be raced in an indoor facility. Did I misread this? The artist rendering of the competition pool is outdoors. Someone must know.
They swam outside in Athens. I don’t think they need to be indoor and during the summer in LA they likely won’t be
Outdoor pools really suck for backstrokers, and IMers. Plus, it’s totally unfair that conditions can vary from one heat to the next, when making a final can comedown to hundredths of a second. Meets this important should be in indoor pools.
the weather in Los Angeles in the summer is very constant during the day. That should not be a concern.

Actually, I know the graphic artist personally and he does know swimming rules.
That would be the easy assumption, however I actually know the graphic artist personally, and he happens to be quite passionate about FINAs swimming rules.
So the graphic artist know about the rules.
Then they may have drawn it on purpose for aesthetic reason.
As the song goes: It doesn’t rain in Southern California. There are numerous 50 meter pools in SoCal but I can only think of one (Cerritos) that’s indoors and possibly the new Belmont Plaza in Long Beach if it’s ever built.
The Olympics are 11+ years away so I’m sure any issue regarding indoor vs outdoor could be resolved, even it it means some kind of protective tarp over the pool. The pool on Dedeaux Field will be temporary and will return to being a baseball field after 2028.

The rules for Olympics swimming and world championship were changed after 2009 Rome.
Lane Four is correct. Olympics and Worlds swimming must be held in indoor pool (meaning there has to be roof over the facility).

it would be so weird to have an entirely enclosed pool in So Cal.
Long Beach is still fighting to get ours built. When the Belmont Plaza pool went down everyone expected the new indoor pool to be completed within three years. Nope. So much bickering, I doubt the new indoor natatorium will ever be built.
