Lady Vols Add 3rd Verbal for 2019 from 3-time NCHSAA 4A Champ Kenna Haney

Raleigh, North Carolina’s Kenna Haney has announced her verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee for 2019-20, joining future teammates Lyndsey Huizenga and Natalie Ungaretti in the class of 2023.

“Excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swim career at the University of Tennessee! Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way! Go Vols!??”

Haney is a junior at Sanderson High School in Raleigh. She won both the 200 free (1:47.90) and 500 free (4:49.59) at the 2018 NCHSAA 4A State Championships. The previous year she won the 200 free (1:47.29) and was runner-up in the 500 (4:50.49, representing a 10-second drop from her freshman year). In club swimming Haney represents New Wave Swim Team. She was a top-16 finisher in the 200/500/1000/1650 free and placed 19th in the 200 back at NCSA Spring Championship in March. There she improved her PBs in the 1000 free, 200 back, and 50 fly.

Haney will add depth to the Tennessee freestyle group. Sophomore Stanzi Moseley was the only Lady Vol to score (3rd place) in the 200 free at 2018 SEC Championships; Haney would have been a C-finalist. Freshman Amanda Nunan was the leading scorer in the longer freestyle races and will provide a good training partner for Haney, who would have been 14th in the mile at SECs.

Top SCY times:

  • 100 free – 50.67
  • 200 free – 1:47.29
  • 500 free – 4:49.20
  • 1000 free – 9:55.54
  • 1650 free – 16:27.71
