JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Lafayette swimming and diving team opened its 2020 regular season in style, with the men and women both defeating St. Peter’s. The women won 186-94, while the men won 164-133.

On the women’s side, the Leopards won 13 races and dominated throughout the meet.

Kicking off the action was the 200 yard medley relay team of Emily TuchmanEmma TaylorMaya Imperial, and Natalie Richardson winning the race in a time of 1:00.26.

Sydney Perks also continued her strong season with a win in the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 11:23.02. Her time was over eight seconds faster than the second place finisher in the race. She also came back later to win the 200 yard backstroke in a final time of 2:15.77.

Tara Leininger also got in on the winning, finishing first in the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 2:00.25. Her day was not finished, as she also won the 500 yard freestyle in a final time of 5:41.94.

Danielle Carr also continued her season on a high note, winning the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.13.

The 100 yard breaststroke ended up being a fascinating race as Haleigh Marzano and Emma Taylor tied for first place with a final time of 1:11.38. Marzano also came back later in the meet and won the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:34.86.

Emily Wilson continued making a mark on this season, winning the 50 yard freestyle in a blazing time of 25.78. She later came back to also win the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 55.90.

Anne Marie Mozrall also had a win for the Leopards, finishing first in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.21.

Amanda Reeter also joined in on the fun, winning the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:18.37.

The final win on the day belonged to the 400 yard freestyle relay team of Samantha TaleckiEmily RichterMargaret Champagne, and Emily Wilson, finishing first in a time of 3:48.71.

On the men’s side, the Leopards won eight of the events.

Starting off the action was Ethan Keyes, winning the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 54.89. Keyes later came back to also win the 200 yard backstroke in a time of 1:59.39.

The next win belonged to Tanner McFarland, winning the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 1:58.48, over six seconds faster than the second place finisher.

Aaron Tupper also got in on the action, finishing first in the 50 yard freestyle in a final time of 22.12.

Justin Lloyd continued his strong showing to the season, winning the 500 yard freestyle in a time of 4:50.95.

The 100 yard butterfly was another winner for Lafayette, with Jamison Crow leading the charge with a 53.64 second finish for first place.

Kyle Goodwill was once again dependable for the Leopards, winning the 200 yard IM in a time of 2:00.83.

The men closed out the meet with a win in the 400 yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:12.15. Leading the charge was Bryce CurrieLouis Franzone, (Justin) Lloyd, and (Aaron) Tupper.

“We had several great swims to put us on the winning side,” said head coach James Dailey. “We had three men’s swimmers dive and enter other events they normally do not do. We literally threw everything we had on the roster at them and pulled it off.”

Dailey believes this win does a lot for the teams confidence for the rest of the season. “This meet gave us the satisfaction of knowing all the training we did down in Florida was worth it,” says Dailey.

Up next for the Leopards is an away meet at Rider on Friday, January 24th at 6:00 PM EST.

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Saint Peter’s University swimming & diving programs returned home to welcome Lafayette College to the the Yanitelli Center on Tuesday in a dual match that opened the 2020 portion of their season schedule. Many Peacocks enjoyed top finishes in the meet, which saw the visitors emerge on top on both the men’s and women’s side.

Top Performances

  • The men’s compilation of Mike Spark, Luke CillieMartin Le Pays du Teilleul and Andrew Galarza won the 200 yard medley relay in a final time of 1:37.47.
  • Freshman Noah Berlin won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:10.42.
  • In the 200 yard freestyle, Efrat Marom finished second posting a time of 2:00.46.
  • Two Peacocks had top finishes in the 200 yard freestyle, as Cillie placed first and Galarza was runner-up.
  • Dylan Dela Cruz had the top finish in the 100 yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:01.25.
  • Amelie Essmann also was victorious in the 200 yard butterfly after finishing in 2:15.79.
  • Cillie finished first in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 47.28.
  • Sophomore Natalie Davis had a time of 2:15.95 in the 200 yard backstroke, putting her in a close second for the race.
  • The Peacocks dominated the 200 yard breaststroke on the men’s side with Brian Coughlin, Dela Cruz and Ferran Martinez claiming the top three spots, respectively.
  • Le Pays du Teilleul claimed a second-place performance in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing at 54.10.
  • The women’s quartet of Davis, Devyn Hantgin, Essmann and Marom finished third in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:56.50.

Up Next
Both teams will head to West Long Branch to face off against Monmouth and LIU on Saturday morning.
