Jacob Bares, team Captain for both Lafayette High School and Crawfish Aquatics in Lafayette, LA, is headed to Utah. Jacob will have his work cut out for him to compete at the Pac-12 level, but when looking at his work ethic and academic focus, his long course times versus his best short course, and the great things Head Coach Joe Dykstra is doing with the Utes, it is an easy assumption that Bares will make great strides toward doing just that.
Jacob’s club coach Thomas Clavier told SwimSwam: “He is a tremendous leader. He is a hard worker and loyal to our team and the program. He has always raced with heart and is a great human being.”
Jacob is the 100 breaststroke record holder for Lafayette High and the Southwest League record holder in the 200 IM & 100 Breaststroke. He is a Futures and Winter Junior Nationals qualifier after strong performances this summer. He maintains a 3.7 gpa in all gifted classes, is an AP Scholar, and was awarded USA Swimming Scholastic All-America status in 2014 and 2015. At Utah, he plans to major in Civil Engineering with a minor in Business
“I chose University of Utah because my goal is to compete at the highest level in swimming and get the best schooling possible. I know that Utah’s coaching staff and swimmers will help me achieve my goal of being the best I can be and I know the University will give me the tools and education I have always wanted. I truly feel blessed to be part of the team and am excited to contribute in any way I can.”
