Lafayette Women, Rider Men Earn Victories In Split Dual

EASTON, Pa. – The Lafayette swimming and diving team hosted Rider on Saturday at Weinstein Natatorium with the women claiming an 184-110 victory and the men dropping a 192.5-103.5 decision.

For the women, junior Maggie Ivie snagged first-place victories in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke (59.34, 2:10.28). Sophomore Emma Luttrell had first-place finishes in the 200-yard fly and 400-yard IM (2:08.98, 4:39.44). Seniors Kristen O’Connor and Kaley Snarr each reeled in first-place finishes in the 50 free (25.32) and 500 freestyle (5:19.81), respectively.

Senior Maya Byrne swam a 55.14 in the 100-yard freestyle for first place, while freshmen Caroline Schenck and Sarah Newman collected wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.91) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.13), respectively.

Sophomore Ella DeSalvo placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.91) and junior Meghan Inglis had two second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (25.79) and 200-yard backstroke (2:11.62).

In the 100-yard fly, freshman Natalie Johnson and senior Anya Pelshaw finished consecutively in second and third place (1:00.17, 1:00.96), while freshmen Diedre Scudder and Abby Gallagher placed second and third place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.72) and 1000-yard freestyle (11:17.51).

The relay team of Ivie, sophomore Isabella Van Ess, junior Sophia Toomey and O’Connor managed a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.71).

For the women’s divers, freshman Mia Guster clinched victories in the 1- and 3-meter dives with 228.39 and 229.35 scores, respectively. Sophomore Gianna Bobrowski scored 224.79 for a second-place finish in the 1-meter event.

On the men’s side, junior Andrew Campbell had a first-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:15.41) and set a pool record in the 400-yard IM with a final time of 4:04.44. Fellow junior Peter Kawash finished first in the 500 freestyle (4:52.60) and took second in the 100 backstroke (53.10). Juniors Avery LeTourneau and Timothy Jimenez each managed second-place finishes in the 200 fly (1:57.12) and 100 breaststroke (59.98), respectively.

Freshman Charlie Barker was second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.22) and classmate Brandon Mallios swam a 4:28.58 for third in the 400 IM. Senior James Lapsley placed third in the 100 backstroke (53.90) while sophomores Tommy Weber and Sean McManus each ended third in the 50 (21.95) and 500 (5:04.31) freestyle. Junior Sean Robinson earned a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.42).

For the men’s divers, sophomore Peter Curtis and freshman Trey Telleen reeled in second-place finishes in the 3- and 1-meter dives, scoring 239.48 and 241.11, respectively.

“This was a great meet for us, especially coming off a really hard training trip to Plantation, Fla.,” said Lafayette head coach James Dailey. “Down in Florida we train doubles every day without a lot of rest. To swim this well after returning to campus on Wednesday night has us going in a great direction. As a team, we are looking forward to swimming some different events on Monday followed by more focused training. We will be getting ready for our shave and taper period, which I’m looking forward to.”

The Leopards host Mount St. Mary’s on Monday at 1 p.m.

EASTON, PA – The Rider University men’s swimming and diving team had a strong performance Saturday, earning a win at Lafayette, 192.5-103.5. The Broncs improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Leopards fall to 2-5.

The Bronc men won 13 events in the meet.

Rider got off to a strong start in the 200-medley relay. Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross), Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional), Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy), and Bobby Irwin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) earned the win with a time of 1:34.28.

Racevicius then got a win in the 200-free with a time of 1:45.41.

In the 100-back, Lane took the victory, swimming 51.67. Lane then finished one-two with Irwin in the 100-fly, touching the wall in 51.63 and 52.96.

Matthew Borovik (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) earned the win in the 100-breast, stopping the clock at 57.83. Borovik and Ruddy swam one-two in the 200-breast with times of 2:11.42 and 2:15.21.

Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) won the 200-fly, touching the wall at 1:56.02.

Matt Lequang (Plainsboro, NJ/Notre Dame) and Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) finished one-two in the 50-free, swimming 21.70 and 21.81. Lequang and Racevicius were one-two in the 100-free with times of 47.02 and 47.54.

David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) and Derek Fantano (Morris, CT/Holy Cross) swam one-two in the 200-back with times of 1:55.61 and 1:56.94.

The team of Rogowski, Ruddy, Lequang, and Racevicius closed out the day with a win in the 200-free relay, swimming 1:25.04.

Marcas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) earned the win on the 3-meter with a score of 258.00 and the 1-meter with a score of 281.03.

– Borovik and Brayden Murphy (Victor, NY/Victor Senior) finished two-three in the 1,650-free.
– Andrew Smolar (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) finished third in the 200-free and second in the 500-free.
– Ruddy was third in the 100-breast.
– Irwin finished third in the 200-fly.
– Stavros Xantheas (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) was third on both the 3-meter and the 1-meter.
– Fantano was second in the 400-IM.

EASTON, PA – The Rider University women’s swimming and diving team returned to action Saturday, falling at Lafayette, 184-110. The Broncs fall to 3-5, while the Leopards improve to 2-5.

The Bronc women won four events in the meet.

Megan Smith (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) and Casey McLaughlin (Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) finished one-two in the 1,000-free, touching the wall at 10:56.73 and 11:01.58.

Suriya Pathammavong (Rochester, NY/Churchville Chili) earned a win in the 200-breast, stopping the clock at 2:33.10.

Hannah Yemec (Bluffton, SC/May River) got the Broncs final individual win of the day, winning the 100-fly in 59.34.

Rider closed out the day with a win in the 200-free relay. Connar Melcher (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin), Yemec, Maddie McSorley (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy), and Alexa Torres (Lyndhurst, NJ/Lyndhurst) combined to stop the clock at 1:43.80.

– Mallory Mead (Middle River, MD/Dulaney[Oklahoma Christian]) and Smith finished two-three in the 500-free.
– McLaughlin and Gianna Farina (Easton, PA/Notre Dame Green Pond) finished two-three in the 400-IM.
