LORETTO, Pa. – Saint Francis sophomore Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) earned NEC Swimmer of the Week honors, selected by the conference on Tuesday, for her performance so far this season. Through the first three weeks of the season, Lafferty owns the top 200-yard Freestyle time in the conference.
Last weekend at the Northeast Catholic Invite, Lafferty won two freestyle events. Lafferty finished first, out of 44 swimmers, in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:55.96. The sophomore also won the 100-yard Freestyle event, with a pace of 53.50, top lead the field of 45 swimmers.
Lafferty added a fifth place finish in the 500-yard Freestyle with a time of 5:17.65 and helped the 200-yard Freestyle Relay team, joining Mary Kish (Glendale, Ariz./Bourgade Catholic), Jessie Reilly (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Upper St. Clair) and Catherine Rogers(Nokesville, Va./Seton School), to finish first with a time of 1:39.92. Lafferty was also a part of the 400-yard Freestyle Relay team that placed second with a time of 3:41.16.
The previous meet, vs. St. Francis Brooklyn, Lafferty earned wins in the 200-yard Butterfly, with a time of 2:13.15, and the 200-yard Backstroke, with a time of 2:11.70.
In the opening meet of the season, vs. Georgetown and Delaware, the sophomore earned top five finishes in the 500-yard Freestyle, with a pace of 5:15.82 to place third, and 1000-yard Freestyle, with a time of 11:00.79 to finish fifth.
The Red Flash returns to action this weekend, competing at NEC foe Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday at 1 p.m.
