ROCHESTER, Mich. — The Oakland University women’s swimming and diving team dominated the University of Toledo 186.5 to 113.5 on Friday, Oct. 22, at their home pool.

Oakland took first place in 13 events, led by Susan LaGrand, an All-American a season ago. LaGrand won the 100-yard backstroke (55.2), the 100-yard IM (57.44), and the 200-yard medley relay (1:43.39) while also taking second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.01).

Emily Aycock won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:24.35) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.01), while Jewel Huang won the 50-yard backstroke (26.80). Elleana Chalifoux won the 1-meter dive (269.32) and 3-meter dive (270.98).

Sophia Davis won the 50-yard butterfly (25.56), while Jordyn Shipps won the 100-yard freestyle (51.49).

The Golden Grizzlies will return to the pool to take on Xavier on Saturday, Oct. 23, inside the Oakland Aquatic Center.

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The University of Toledo women’s swimming and diving team opened its 2021-22 season at Oakland on Friday. The Rockets fell to the Golden Grizzlies, 186.5-113.5.

Toledo freestyle sprinters claimed two victories in the pool on Friday, courtesy of Kennedy Lovell. The junior touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:51.3) and in the 50 freestyle (23.62). Lovell also took second in the 100 freestyle (52.64). There were 16 other top-three finishes for Toledo swimmers against the Golden Grizzlies.

Toledo will stay on the road for its next event and first Mid-American Conference dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 30. Race time at Buffalo is scheduled for 11:00 am.

Toledo Top-3 Finishes
The 200 medley relay team of Madeline BlakelyLauren KilgoreSydney Conrad and Lucie Morris finished third with a time of 1:46.14.

Junior Jovana Duric finished second (10:31.69) while senior Samantha Ekleberry was right behind her for a third-place finish (10:40.97) in the 1000 freestyle. Duric also finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:10.31) followed by Ekleberry in third (5:12.41)

Freshman Lucie Morris made her collegiate debut in the 50 backstroke (27.52) for a runner-up finish, and finished third in the 50 freestyle (24.70) as well.

Junior Lauren Kilgore finished third in the 50 breaststroke (29.71) and was runner-up in both the 100 breaststroke (1:04.48) and 100 IM (57.47).

Sophomore Sydney Conrad took second in both the 100 butterfly (55.94) and 50 butterfly (25.61).

Freshman Madeline Blakely finished her first collegiate meet with a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.11.

On the diving boards, sophomore Ryli Harden placed second on three-meter with her mark of 230.47. Sophomore Madison Giglio led Toledo in the three-meter dive with a second-place finish and a mark of 237.15, followed by freshman Kassie Gutierrez with a score of 221.62.
