Led off by a national-record-setting 1:33.07 on the opening leg from Maximus Williamson, the Lakeside Aquatic Club in suburban Dallas also broke the Short Course Juniors and 15-18 National Age Group Records in the 800 yard free relay on Wednesday.
The team of Williamson (16), Cooper Lucas (17), Max Hatcher (16), and River Paulk (17) combined to swim a 6:22.78. That broke the old Winter Juniors record of 6:23.21 that was set by Carmel in 2019 and the old 15-18 National Age Group Record that was set by the Mason Manta Rays the same year.
Williamson’s swim individually broke the 15-16 National Age Group Record.
Splits Comparison:
Lakeside Aquatic Club | Mason Manta Rays | Carmel Swim Club
2022 Winter Juniors – New Record | 2019 NCSAs – Old 15-18 Record | Old SC Winter Juniors Record

3rd leg | Max Hatcher – 1:37.44 | Jake Foster – 1:36.25 | Griffin Hadley – 1:37.54 |

Total Time | 6:22.78 | 6:23.14 | 6:23.21 |
The records they broke includes some titans of college swimming right now, with the likes of US National Teamers Jake and Carson Foster, Olympian Jake Mitchell, and NCAA Champion Adam Chaney among those on the former record-setting relays.
Two things make this Lakeside Aquatic Club relay especially prodigious. One is that Lucas, Hatcher, and Paulk are high school juniors and Williamson is a sophomore, meaning they have at least a season-and-a-half together. The other is that three of them (Williamson, Lucas, and Paulk) all swim together at Keller High School after Williamson’s transfer from Southlake Carroll, where Hatcher is a student, and Paulk’s transfer from Lubbock High.
A Rose Bowl Aquatics relay from 2021 remains the 15-16 record in the event, and Carmel’s swim referenced above remains the 17-18 record.
I know it gets said a lot, but swimming is so much faster these days than when I was an age grouper! It’s wild that a 1:38 is the significantly slowest leg on that relay.
I think this is the start of a big streak for these boys throughout the meet.
War Eagle, good work River
1:33.0 at 16 is wicked
fr. Dude has two more of these meets left too…these records could look drastically different in a couple of years with Heilman, Maximus, Diehl, and Winkler throwing down mister swims.
So very happy and proud of our Lakeside Aquatic Club teammates that broke the 800 Free Relay! They’re all amazing athletes that swim with such passion and dedication! Our grandson River Paulk that swam the last leg just recently moved from Lubbock TX where he amazed us from a very young age. We miss him but so very excited that he’s continuing to excel there at LAC & Keller High School.
