Lakeside Swim Team’s Matt Bode will follow in parents’ footsteps and swim for Davidson

Matt Bode, a senior at Louisville Collegiate High School, has committed to swim for Davidson College. His parents, Tim and Ruth-Ann, both swam for the Wildcats in the late ’70s. Bode is a three-sport athlete at Louisville Collegiate, but has committed to swim at Davidson. He also runs cross country and track, and is a two-time Kentucky State Class A champion in cross country.

As a junior at he placed second in Kentucky High School Athletic Swimming & Diving Championships in both the 200 and 500 freestyles, and was a member of Collegiate’s two state-champion relays: 200 free and 400 free. This season he finished seventh in the 200/500 freestyles and was also a member of the free relays.

Bode swims year-round with Lakeside Swim Team. His best times include:

Event SCY LCM
100 free 47.86 54.37
200 free 1:40.28 1:57.12
500/400 free 4:31.56 4:10.27
1000 free 9:36.13 8:42.08
1650/1500 free 16:14.76 16:41.56
200 IM 1:56.19 2:17.82
400 IM 4:04.48 4:50.81

The Wildcats will benefit right away from the 6’3”-with-a-winspan-of-6’7” Bode. His times in the 200/500/1000/1650 free and 400 IM are already among Davidson’s top-ten, and he would have been at or near the top-16 at conference championships in the 500, 1650, and 400 IM. Davidson finished sixth in its inaugural year in the Atlantic-10 conference.

It looks like this kid has pretty good range. That is great for filling holes in dual meets and relays. Also times wise he is a good pickup for Davidson.
