Laszlo Cseh Says Butterflies are More His Focus than IMs

Many thanks to Shvoong for sharing their coverage of 2015 European Short Course Championships with SwimSwam.

Hungarian Laszlo Cseh is continuing his late-career renaissance now into his 30th year, and despite his European Record in the 200 SCM IM on Friday at the 2015 European Short Course Championships, he says that the butterfly events are still his focus.

“That was one of my most enjoyable 200 medleys for the past few years,” Cseh said after the swim on Friday.

He was noncommittal in the interview as to whether he was officially giving up the 200 IM down the road. Though his comments implied that the swim on Friday might have pushed him closer to adding that race back to his schedule, he still sounded less-than-likely to add it back after winning 200 fly gold and taking silver in the 100 fly at last summer’s World Championships.

Cseh swam 1:51.36 in the 200 IM, which broke Markus Rogan’s 2009 record of 1:51.72.
