In the swimming calendar, where there is no true ‘off-season,’ it is hard to find a free weekend to partake in nuptially-related activities. This past weekend, though, on a break between Worlds and the second leg of the FINA World Cup, was one of those breaks.
A pair of Russia’s elite swimmers, Anastasia Zueva and Sergey Fesikov married on Sunday in Moscow, Russia, uniting two World Class swimmers. The pair reportedly began dating at the first edition of the 2006 FINA Youth World Championships: the first edition of the meet. At that event, Fesikov won four silvers, while Zueva took two golds and a silver, and that was just the beginning of the pair’s great international swimming success.
Fesikov won a bronze medal as part of the Russian 400 free relay at the 2012 Olympics, along with a pair of European Championships, and Zueva took silver in the 200 back at the same London Olympic Games, plus a 2011 World Championship in the 50 back.
Meanwhile, backstroker Camille Lacourt, thrice a World Champion, married former Ms. France Valerie Begue, his long-time girlfriend, in a small, intimate ceremony in France on Saturday.
The big one that everyone around the world has been waiting for and is up next is Katinka Hosszu, who married her coach, agent, and now husband Shane Tusup. The pair met as swimmers at USC, and were in Budapest, Hungary this last week preparing for their wedding. Their next stop will be for the Seychelles, where they will wed on the beach. This wedding comes less than a month after Hosszu broke three Short Course World Records on the World Cup Series, and won two Long Course World Championships in Barcelona. Camille Lacourt and Valérie Bègue have a little daughter since last year.
I hope the baby is beautiful, for his/her own sake.
