Latvia’s Oskars Udris Slapped With Two-Year Ban for Doping

Oskars Udris of Latvia has been given a two-year ban from eligibility for a doping offense.

On November 25th of 2016, Udris tested positive for the prohibited substance meldonium during a doping control at the Riga Championships. Thus, his ineligibility began on that very same day. The Latvian Swimming Federation gave him the ban, which will end in late November of 2018.

Udris was a B finalist in the 50m fly and 100m free at the 2016 Latvian Swimming Championships, though he isn’t a major player in Latvian swimming. According to the FINA press release regarding Udris, “all competitive results obtained by the athlete since that day were disqualified with all resulting consequences including forfeiture of any title, award, medals, points, prizes, etc.”

Meldonium has become one of the big-name drugs in the doping scandals that have made headlines over the last few years. Among the most notable athletes who have recently tested positive for meldonium are tennis player Maria Sharapova and swimmer Yulia Efimova, both from Russia.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned the use of meldonium over a year ago, with the ban going into effect on January 1, 2016.

So this minnow is the only person besides Sharipova to be banned . It is obviously not doing him any good ( B final of Latvian Championships) . Ive heard of minor league but this is millimicro league stuff.
