Laukkanen Sets Two National Records at Finnish Grand Prix

At the first Finnish Grand Prix of the season in Vaasa Jenna Laukkanen set records in both the short course 50 and 100 breaststroke.

Laukkanen took the 50 breaststroke in a time of 30.05 breaking the record of 30.40 set by Katja Lehtonen in 2009. In the summer at the World Championships in Kazan she took down the long course record which was held by Lehtonen.

She also won the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:05.02 breaking her own record of 1:05.64 which she set last year at the Short Course World Championships in Doha.

Laukkanen won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:21.30 just missing her own record of 2:21.30 which she set last November.

After erasing Lehtonen’s mark in the 50 Laukkanen now holds the short course and long course national records in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Short course:

  • 50 breaststroke – 30.05
  • 100 breaststroke – 1:05.02
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:21.30

Long course:

  • 50 breaststroke – 30.79
  • 100 breaststroke – 1:07.58
  • 200 breaststroke – 2:25.45

Laukkanen also took the win in the 200 IM hitting the wall in a time of 2:11.61 over seven seconds ahead of the field.

Other multiple winners in Vaasa included Ari-Pekka Liukkonen who won both the men’s 50 (27.50) and 100 breaststroke (59.16) as well as the 50 freestyle (21.76).

Kalle Pyykkonen who took the men’s 200 (2:02.84) and 400 IM (4:22.33).

Laura Lajunen won the women’s 200 (2:02.85), 400 (4:13.66) and 800 freestyle (8:42.51) while Lotta Upanne took both the 50 (28.43) and 100 backstroke (1:01.20).
