Whatever his label is, he has been taking it one step at a time and steadily improving. It’s no secret what his long term goals are. He could break a nag or two this weekend. The last time I checked, breaking a 15-16 nag at the age of 15 at an in season meet is pretty good. If it doesn’t happen, oh well, he is still on track for his long term goals.

As far as pressure goes, it comes with the territory. Phelps, Missy, Ledecky, and all other top age groupers have all had pressure on them. Michael Andrew has handled it well. He is humble and mature beyond his years. Just keep doing what you are doing… Read more »

He should be able to get 100 Fly at least since he already broke it while technically still in the 13-14 age group.

Not as a knock against Andrew in any way, but all those three swimmers won major international medals at Andrew’s age.

Comparing Andrew to Phelps, Missy and Ledecky put even more pressure on him.

“rising superstar”

poor Michael Andrew. SOO MUCH pressure and expectation already when you are only 15.

I would agree with Mr. Huntington regarding the “rising superstar” observation, It’s Balogh NOT Balough, and any ideas on where Brennan is leaning for his college swimming?

Balogh had visits to Auburn, Wisconsin, Florida, and Stanford.

“rising superstar”?? I’d hesitate to call him that. still is not close to being on the senior national team.

who would you consider a “rising star” then? I’d consider an 18 and under standout who is consistently dropping time and breaking national records. Can’t think of a better fit than Michael Andrew in the last 5 years.

I would throw in names like Ryan Murphy, Andrew Seliskar, Chase Kasilz. Guys who are on the senior national team and who are ready to make a name for themselves at Worlds and Rio. I don’t think Andrew will be doing that.

Ryan Murphy is a two-time NCAA individual national champion as a freshman. If that’s not superstar, I don’t know what is. So your definition of a RISING superstar is “top three guys I can think of off the top of my head not named Phelps or Lochte?” If not, please explain your logic. Check out the record books and you’ll find Michael Andrew’s name written on more and more records as he ages. Star rising… Stats say more thann anyone we’ve seen since Missy…

As I said before, a rising superstar is someone who is on the cusp of winning international medals (NCAA championships are nice but not nearly the same as winning a gold at the Olympics). For me Phelps, Lochte, Grevers, Clary, and Adrian are superstars for the US right now. Someone can reasonably expect the swimmers I listed above to join this group. I can call Andrew an “age group star” but not “rising superstar”.
