le Clos Takes Two Events at South African Grand Prix in Port Elizabeth

Chad le Clos collected gold in both the 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle on the first day of the South African Grand Prix in Port Elizabeth. le Clos took the 50 butterfly in a time of 24.51 and the 100 freestyle in a time of 50.04.

le Clos is well off his time of 23.31, which he posted in November, but was faster than the 24.67 that he put up at the Grand Prix stop in Durban.

With Cameron van der Burgh not in the mix Jarred Crous picked up wins in the 50 and 200 breaststroke. Crous won the 50 in a time of 28.09 and the 200 in a time of 2:15.53.

Jessica Ashley-Cooper and Mariella Venter also won two gold on Saturday. Ashley-Cooper took the women’s 50 freestyle in a time of 26.51 and the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:02.07. Venter won the 50 backstroke in a time of 29.47 and the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:14.82.

National team veteran Karin Prinsloo took the women’s 200 freestyle in a time of 2:01.87.
