Ledecky, Worrell, Gemmell Scheduled To Compete In Indiana This Weekend

Katie Ledecky hasn’t raced as much this calendar year as we are used to seeing. She has had a busy year. Between trips to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, White House visits, and her high school graduation, it’s understandable why she hasn’t been racing as frequently as she was last year. At this point in 2014, Ledecky had competed in four different long course swim meets; the Virginia LC Championships, The Woodlands Senior Invite, the Mesa Grand Prix, and the Austin Grand Prix. This year, however, she has only raced in two long course meets; the Arena Pro Swim Series meets in Austin and Mesa.

This weekend Ledecky is entered to swim six races at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. The Indiana University Swim Team (IUST) is hosting the 2015 Indiana University visitbloomington.com Bucceto Open as part of Indiana’s senior circuit. She is entered to swim all of her normal events, the 100, 200, 400, and 800 freestyles, along with a few extra bonus events like the 400 IM. Although the 400 IM isn’t one her signature events, it is one we see her swim more frequently when she isn’t swimming distance freestyle.

The one big surprise event for Ledecky this weekend is the women’s 200 butterfly. Her best 200 butterfly time is 2:15.62 from 2014, and that time leaves her seeded fifth in the event this weekend. Junior World Record Holder Hannah Kukurugya is the top seed in the event with her time of 2:09.68. Two Indiana University swimmers, Gia Dalesandro and Haley Lips, are seeded second and third with 2:12’s, and junior national teamer Vanessa Krause is the final swimmer seeded ahead of her in fourth with a 2:14.82.

Nation’s Capital is bringing a small group of big name swimmers to the meet including US Olympian Andrew Gemmell, Matthew Hirschberger, and Isabelle Rongione. Other big name swimmers competing this weekend include American record holder Kelsi Worrell, college swimmers from Indiana, Louisville, and Kentucky, and multiple US Junior National Team members.

Yes. She has not put the 800 free WR yet at the same level as the 400 free and the 1500 free. I think that as long as she doesn’t swim 8.08 she will not be fully satisfied.
