While the World Junior records have not been very well managed since their inauguration, it looks as though Li Zhuhao of China has given the old 100 fly record quite the flogging.
According to SwimSwam’s records page, we have it that Li held the record before this meet at 51.91 from the Asian Games last September.
This morning in prelims, Li rocked a 51.54 for the third seed going into semifinals. That was his first record of the meet, until he came back for semifinals and erased that record again with a 51.33 in semis to qualify 5th for finals.
Li, prelims- 24.29/27.25 = 51.54
Li, semifinals- 24.28/27.05 = 51.33
Li’s been very consistent with his splitting thus far, but he will have to overcome some of the world’s greats if he wants to contend for a podium finish. Nonetheless, the young Li, who was born in 1999, has put together a fantastic program so far, and will be the only Chinese swimmer to compete in finals of this race.
