Texas’s Will Licon and Missouri’s Fabian Schwingenschlogl moved to #2 and #3 all-time in the 100 breaststroke in the same race Friday, taking gold and silver in the men’s NCAA final.
Licon went 50.68 to win the race, putting together a huge back half of 26.80 to erase a half-second lead Schwingenschlogl built early. Licon was 50.87 in prelims to sit #4, but passes up Damir Dugonjic (50.86) and Cody Miller (50.82) in the rankings to sit only behind American record-holder Kevin Cordes.
Schwingenschlogl was 51.76 in prelims and cut almost a full second at night, pushing the pace early with a blazing 23.46 opening split. He was 50.77 to pass up Dugonjic and Miller to sit #3 all-time in the event.

Virginia Tech’s Brandon Fiala sits #9 all-time with his prelims swim, though he dropped back a bit in the final.
Licon now has the 4th-fastest swim of all-time and Schwingenschlogl the 7th-fastest.
Who was the last person to win the 400 IM and the 100 Breast in their NCAA career? That seems a bit bizarre as they are on the same day.
It was Tracy Caulkins of Florida who won the 100 breast and 400 IM in 1984. I can’t find any men who have done that combo, although Tom Wilkens of Stanford won the 200 breast and 400 IM in 1998.
55:40-55:45 time stamp of the ESPN replay. Licon takes his final stroke and instead of breaststroke kicking, he takes a dolphin kick. A clear DQ that wasn’t called. Unfortunately this is evidence that he cheated his way to this title, and there is no other way of seeing this.

Licon 1:47 in the 200? He’s obviously got more pure speed than last year. Look out for him in the 100/200 internationally this year. This also makes Cordes’ time even more unreal.
