The Men’s 200 breast saw a very quick swim out of the first heat this morning as Estonia’s Martin Liivamägi established a new national record with a 2:06.43. Impressively, Liivamägi had no competition whatsoever in the prelim swim, and easily won the first heat by almost six second.
The previous record had been held by fellow Cal Golden Bear alumni Martti Aljand from back in 2009. Aljand swam a 2:07.32 at that year’s Championships. Liivamägi now owns both the LCM and SCM national records for Estonia.
Liivamägi’s splits:
28.04
59.80 (31.76)
1:32.50 (32.70)
2:06.43 (33.93)
