Lilianna Smith Stays In-State with Commitment to Alma

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Lilianna (Lily) Smith from Davison, Michigan has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Division III Alma College beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

I chose Alma because I like the coaches. I feel they have a strong swim program and I am excited to continue my swimming career at Alma.”

Smith swims for Flint ‘Y’ Falcons out of Flint, MI. In December, she earned a best time in the 50 freestyle (29.82) at the Lifetime Candy Cane Meet.

She began her senior year this fall at Davison High School in Davison, MI. She earned numerous best times at the Saginaw Valley League (SVL) Championships in November. Those times included the 100 breaststroke (1:15.06) and the 200 IM (2:40.32). Her 100 breaststroke time earned her a sixth place finish, and her 200 IM time earned her a 21st place finish.

Her best short course yards times are:

  • 100 breaststroke: 1:15.06
  • 200 breaststroke: 2:57.22
  • 50 freestyle: 29.82
  • 200 IM: 2:40.32

Alma College is a private college located in Alma, Michigan. The school is a member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA).

The Alma women finished fifth out of six teams at the 2021 MIAA Championships. The team was led by graduated senior Allison Brown who scored 19 points and current senior Jennifer Ostrowski who scored 18 points. Head coach Nick Polzin is in his second season with the Scots.

Based on her best times, Smith has the potential to make an immediate impact at the conference level. Her best time in the 100 breaststroke would have earned her a ‘B’ final swim at the 2021 MIAA Championships.

Smith will arrive on campus next fall as a member of the class of 2026. She will arrive on campus just in time as Alma graduated every primary breaststroker but Emily Diener this past year. She will have one year overlap with Diener.

Congratulations to Liliana. Looks like she has the ability to help move this program forward.

It’s great to see these commitments to colleges of all sizes. It helps young swimmers to have an idea of all the possibilities that are out there for continuing swimming after high school.
