Tonight in Columbus on the final day of competition at the 2018 NCAA Women’s DI NCAA Championships, Lilly King of Indiana University put up an American-record 200 breaststroke in 2:02.60, breaking her own record by .58. Meanwhile, Texas A&M‘s world championships silver medalist Bethany Galat became the second-fastest swimmer in history with the third-fastest performance ever, a 2:03.26 for silver.
King’s previous record was a 2:03.18 from 2017 NCAAs. She is now a perfect 3-for-3 with NCAA 200 breaststroke titles and American records; the record before that was a 2:03.59 from 2016 NCAAs.
Galat’s best time before tonight was 2:06.52. She dropped over three seconds and rocketed ahead of the likes of Kierra Smith, Emma Reaney, Breeja Larson, Sydney Pickrem, Rebecca Soni, Caitlin Leverenz, Laura Sogar, and Anna Belousova in the all-time rankings.

Giving King her due (she earned it) but A&M (not IU or anyone else)is the “Breast Stroke U”of women’s swimming. It’ll be a while before anyone else (except maybe “Breast Stroke U”) places 4 swimmers in the A final of the 200 breast stroke.
She goes out in :58.3 and still negative splits her last 100.
Never doubt THE KING!
King is the Queen of Beastroke.
