Lilly King Breaks NCAA Championship Record in 100 Breast Final

2017 WOMEN’S NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Indiana sophomore Lilly King wasn’t quite as fast as her NCAA and U.S. Open Record in the 100 breaststroke done a month ago at the Big Ten Championships, but she managed to get under her own NCAA Championship record in Friday’s final.

King swam 56.71 to tip off her conference-foe Lindsey Horejsi from Minnesota by three-tenths of a second. King swam 56.85 to win last year’s title in the event.

A comparison of her splits from the 3 meets

2017 NCAAs 2017 Big Tens 2016 NCAAs
26.43 26.35 26.44
30.28 29.95 30.41
56.71 56.30 56.85

King has now been under 57 seconds three times in her career. Nobody else has done so even once.

Horjesi, who is only a freshman, moved up to 8th on the list of all-time performers in the event with her 58.03 second-place finish. That swim broke the Minnesota school record set by former NCAA champion Jillian Tyler in 2011.

If Baker drops an AR here, she gets my vote for swimmer of the meet.

She rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

Her arrogance can’t help with recruiting or maintaining current talent. She roomed with miranda tucker last year so there is probably more to the story of why she left. I would think the program would want her to tone it down a bit. Confidence is a great quality but she has appeared to exceed that.

Trains harder than anyone else? She’s made that claim at least twice before but I’m surprised she still believes it after the Olympic training camp in San Antonio TX when her teammate hammered out a big set of 50’s to which LKing had no answer. Trains harder? Don’t think that’s accurate. But she is an amazing ‘racer’.

Is there such thing as a big set of 50’s?

I mean she wasn’t wrong in saying she had no one to race. Perhaps saying you train harder than anyone is slightly brash, but overall I appreciate the blatant honesty she brings to the sport. She calls it like she sees it and I certainly respect that.

Just cause it’s true doesn’t mean you should say it and how does she know no one could have a huge time drop and beat her? Insanely bad sportsmanship

I wish someone had stuck a microphone in her face after the 200 semifinal at Rio, when she didn’t advance to the finals. Who knows, maybe it’ll happen in the 200 breast here. It’s easy to be brash after you’ve won. She needs to add some class to her act. When she does have someone to race, like at the next Olympics, or sooner on a National team, she’s making it very easy for the coaches to pick the other woman for the relay.

Born 6 months after Atlanta . I hope her athletic parents did not name her lillia after the one & only Lilia Podpokaeva – 96 Floor champ . One of the legendary routines that mixed true balletic moves with tumbling . No girl has done a front handspring tucked 5/2 somi or fouettes since . And no – Simone can only tumble backwards .

But if you are athletic & your family values are most likely to produce an aggro individual .do not give your girl a flower name or one that is the flower that is sent for funerals ro signify a soul reborn .
