Day three will be one of the shorter sessions of the 2022 World Championships with just four events: the men’s 50 breast, women’s 200 free, men’s 200 fly, and the men’s 800 free.
As we reported earlier, the biggest absence of the session will be top seed Siobhan Haughey of Hong Kong in the women’s 200 free. She has pulled out of the meet entirely due to an ankle injury she suffered in May.
Venezuela’s Alfonso Mestre tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before the World Championships and withdrew from the meet. He will be missed in the men’s 800 free today where he was ranked 15th. Argentina’s Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero also is out of the meet due to COVID-19. He was scheduled to swim the men’s 200 fly today and was ranked #32.
The highest-seeded scratch comes from Kalia Antoniou of Cypress in the women’s 200 free. She was ranked #29 and is still entered in the 100 free on Wednesday and 50 free on Friday. Sierra Leone’s Sheku Kamara was the only swimmer to scratch the men’s 50 breast where he was seeded #65, but he is still entered in the 50 back on Tuesday.
