Lindsey Clary wins twice on final night of Columbus Sectional

Lindsey Clary won her 4th and 5th individual races of the Columbus Sectional to close down the meet Saturday night.

The Ohio State Buckeye crushed her own lifetime bests in the 200 IM and 1500 free to cap off a successful weekend at home.

Clary won the 1500 free in 16:35.01, bettering her previous best by three seconds. She would double up on the day, going 2:16.73 to win the 200 IM. That IM time is her best by about two seconds, and is now well under the Olympic Trials cut.

Lake Erie Silver Dolphins 17-year-old Lauren Heller had a great night as well, hitting a new Olympic Trials cut in the 100 free. Heller won the race in 56.49, hitting the Trials cut right on the nose. She’s been .01 faster than that previously, but that time was done last spring, before the qualifying period for the 2016 Olympic Trials had opened.

Ohio State Swim Club’s Christopher DePietro added to his win total for the weekend with a 2:03.89 win in the 200 IM. That puts him under the Olympic Trials cut for the first time, and was a drop of over two seconds from his previous best.

His Buckeye teammate Steffen Hillmer won the men’s 100 free, going 50.42. Hillmer is a German national, and a rising junior.

The men’s distance race, the 800 free, went to Cincinnati Marlins 16-year-old Christian Imbus in a lifetime-best 8:28.77.

Don’t think OSU men or women are going to Nationals and that is why they are swimming so well here. Their women are on fire no doubt. And SwimSwam is a good marketing tool for their recruiting!

Jared Anderson

Jared Anderson swam for nearly twenty years. Then, Jared Anderson stopped swimming and started writing about swimming. He's not sick of swimming yet. Swimming might be sick of him, though.
