BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU women’s swimming head coach Matthew Donovan released the team’s 2019-20 schedule Friday afternoon. Competing in their first season as Sharks, LIU will host some of the league’s toughest teams in downtown Brooklyn this winter.

“We are really excited for the upcoming season,” Donovan said. “There is a great balance of dual meets and invitationals that the team can build off of to carry us in to championship season.”

LIU opens the year with its annual Brooklyn Invitational, a two-day meet co-hosted by the Sharks and the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers. This year, new Northeast Conference opponent Merrimack joins the fray, as the three teams will battle over two days, October 4 and 5. Friday’s action will take place at SFBK, and Saturday’s will be hosted in LIU Pool.

From there, LIU will travel across the Hudson to take part in the NJIT Invitational, October 11-12, before returning to Brooklyn to host Ivy League foe Columbia for a non-scoring meet, Friday, October 25. The next day, the Sharks will head out to Stony Brook for a tri-meet, taking on the host Seawolves and the NEC’s Sacred Heart.

November opens with a big dual meet for the Sharks, as LIU will play host to perennial NEC contender Saint Francis U., welcoming the Red Flash on Saturday, November 2. That weekend is followed up with a double-dual weekend against non-conference opponents, as LIU will travel to Lafayette College (Nov. 8) and then host Army, Sunday, November 10.

The lone meet in December is a big one for the Sharks, as they will head out to Nassau County Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y., for the ECAC Championships. Always a strong meet for the LIU squad, it will also offer the team a preview of the NEC’s championship venue.

January opens with a tri-meet at Monmouth, where the Sharks will take on the host Hawks, along with Saint Peter’s University, on Saturday, January 18. And the regular season wraps up with two big NEC dual meets. LIU will travel to take on Wagner, Saturday, January 25, before hosting NEC power CCSU at home in LIU Pool, Saturday, February 1.

The Sharks wrap up the season with the 2019-20 Northeast Conference Championship meet, taking place February 19-22, at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.
