JERSEY CITY, N.J. —  The LIU Brooklyn women’s swimming team returned to competition on Saturday after the holiday break and moved to ten wins in dual meets for the first time in program history. The Blackbirds earned a pair of non-conference wins in a double-dual meet in Jersey City, N.J. on Saturday, beating Saint Peter’s, 212-44, and Monmouth, 167-95, on Saturday at the Peacocks’ Yanitelli Center.

The Blackbirds (10-2) won 11 of the 15 events on the slate, as the three teams used a short format schedule, except for the final 800 freestyle relay. LIU had a balanced lineup, as eight swimmers won individual events, which included three swimmers winning two events apiece: senior Mads Carrigan, sophomore Amanda Peren and freshman Lydia Amon.

Carrigan, who is having a strong senior campaign, won the 50 breaststroke (31.81) and the 100 individual medley (1:02.49). Peren enjoyed success in the 500 freestyle (5.20.10) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.23), two very non-traditional events for the super sophomore. Amon was on point in her two signature events, the 50 freestyle (25.08) and 100 freestyle (55.29).

Junior Co-Captain Noemie Lacroix-Moreau also had an eventful day, breaking the school record in the 50 butterfly in 26.47. She finished in second place in her race, but topped the previous program record (set in January 2016) by 0.08. Lacroix Moreau did come away with one gold medal, winning the 100 butterfly in 57.85.

Senior Nathalie Meyers won the 50 backstroke against the Hawks and the Peacocks, with a strong time of 28.25. Sophomore Jeanne Touchette-McGowan also had a win on the day, the 200 freestyle, in 1:59.28, to just beat teammate Amanda San Juan in the race. San Juan, a distance specialist, won the 200 individual medley in 2:15.74 to round out the solo wins on the day.

In the final event, the 800 freestyle relay, a team of Peren, Lacroix-Moreux, San Juan and Touchette-McGowan cruised to a victory in 8:04.55, over 25 seconds ahead of second place.

Sophomore Jodi Hawki anchored a second place 200 medley relay (1:52.00) with Meyers, Carrigan and Amon… Sophomore Kyleigh Barao took second in the 200 individual medley (2:17.41)… Freshman Mackenzie Burnett slotted second in both the 50 breaststroke (32.45) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.03)… Freshman Macie Madden had a third place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:31.09).

Next up, the Blackbirds will wrap up their home schedule, Saturday, January 26, with a 12:00 noon start against Northeast Conference foe Wagner. The meet will also serve as a salute to the program’s first trio of four-year seniors: Mads Carrigan, Nathalie Meyers and Briana Vega.

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Monmouth University women’s swimming team earned a conference victory over Saint Peter’s on Saturday afternoon, winning by a wide margin, 211-50.

The Hawks knocked off the Peacocks and fell to LIU Brooklyn, moving their overall record to 5-7 and their MAAC record to 3-3. The men’s team dropped to 6-4 on the season and 2-3 in conference action with their loss to Saint Peter’s.

Camryn McHugh led the women’s team with individual wins in the 100-yard backstroke and the 50-yard butterfly and was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team. On the men’s side, Callan Smith continued his winning ways with three individual triumphs. Smith won the 500-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard freestyle.

Monmouth’s 200-yard medley relay team of Muriel Maloney, Jaclyn Greening, Camryn McHugh and Bradie Keelen placed first in 1:51.16.

Camryn McHugh claimed the top spot in the 50-yard butterfly with her time of 26.45. She also touched the wall first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.23. McHugh reached 20 individual wins for the 2018-19 season.

Callan Smith placed first in the 500-yard freestyle, winning in 4:44.65. Smith also won the 100-yard backstroke (52.67) and the 200-yard butterfly (1:44.49). Smith increased his season victory total to 27 with his three first-place finishes.

Kevin Del Giorno won the 50-yard backstroke by touching the wall in 24.13. Del Giorno won the second race of his freshman season.

Freshman Dylan Barkhuizen won the 100-yard butterfly in 53.20. It was Barkhuizen’s seventh victory of 2018-19.

Monmouth closes its regular season schedule next Saturday afternoon when the men’s team faces NJIT and the women’s team matches up with Sacred Heart in Fairfield, CT at 12 p.m.

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Saint Peter’s men’s swimming & diving team record improved to 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in the MAAC after defeating hOURglass Rival Monmouth on Saturday. The women’s team battled Monmouth and LIU Brooklyn and fell to both teams.
