Liz Zeiger, Gregor Spoerlein Named CCSA Swimmers of the Week

WOMEN:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – FGCU freshman Liz Zeiger (Cumberland, R.I.) has been named the CCSA Women’s Swimmer of the Week while teammate Ashley Wright (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has been named Women’s Diver of the Week, for meets contested Oct. 18-24, the CCSA announced Wednesday.

Zeiger clocked a season-best in the 1000 free against USC by 22 seconds and a personal record by six seconds (10:09:92). Her time in the event also ranks as the fastest in the conference this season by nearly 20 seconds and registers as the fifth fastest in program history. In the 500 free she recorded a time of 4:57.57 while in the 400 relay she swam a 52.24 as the third leg.

Wright earned her first win of the season against USC in the 1-meter dive with a score of 254.70. Wright’s 3-meter dive score of 274.20 ranks in the top nine of program history. Against UCLA, Wright tallied 273.60 points in the 3-meter dive for second place while tallying second in the 1-meter dive with 268.20 points.

Also nominated for Swimmer of the Week: Bre Stuart (Georgia Southern), Amber Pierce (North Florida), Caroline Clark (Campbell) and Morgan Rulevich (UNC Asheville).

MEN:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (TheCCSA.com) – UMBC senior Gregor Spoerlein (Bamberg, Germany) has been named the CCSA Men’s Swimmer of the Week while teammate Elijah Wright (Baltimore, Md.) has been named Men’s Diver of the Week, for meets contested Oct. 18-24, the CCSA announced Wednesday.

Spoerlein won a pair of individual events against Towson, as well as swimming the anchor leg of the winning 400 relay. He won both the 50 and 100 freestyles with times of 21.19 and 46.32, respectively, while the 400-free team clocked a time of 3:06.32.

Wright swept the diving competition against Towson. The sophomore won the 1-meter dive with a score of 243.90, while also taking the 3-meter with a score of 253.20.

Also nominated for Swimmer of the Week: Connor Bos (Gardner-Webb) and John Nolte (Florida Atlantic).
