Longhorns Sign North Allegheny Breaststroker Casey Melzer

Casey Melzer, from Mars, Pennsylvania, has signed an NLI to swim for the University of Texas in 2015-16. Melzer swims for North Allegheny High School and Allegheny North Swim Club.

At the 2014 PIAA Boys AAA Swimming & Diving Championships, Melzer placed sixth in both the 200 IM (1:52.34) and 100 breast (56.66). He was also a member of North Allegheny’s 200 medley and 400 free relays. In the long course pool, Melzer had some enormous drops in the summer between sophomore and junior years, and went right about at his best times last summer at Speedo Junior Nationals. His top swims over the last two seasons are:

100y breast: 56.45            100m breast: 1:05.33
200y breast: 2:03.07        200m breast: 2:22.26
200y IM: 1:52.34               200m IM: 2:10.18
400y IM: 3:59.74               400m IM: 4:50.44
200y back: 1:55.65            200m back: 2:17.74

Melzer will be part of a strong-and-getting-stronger breast/IM group in Austin, led by two-time Big 12 champion, current sophomore Will Licon. He will join fellow commits Jeff Newkirk, John Shebat, Mason Tenney, Max Holter, and Ryan Harty in the class of 2019.
