Louisville Associate Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka Named Head Coach At Houston

Louisville Associate Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka has officially been named head coach at the University of Houston. An official announcement from the University is expected later this week, but we can confirm that the news has been shared with swimmers from Louisville and Houston. Wochomurka will take over as head coach in Houston on May 11th.

As a coach for the University of Louisville, Wochomurka helped lead the team to back-to-back top 15 finishes at the NCAA championships in the last two years for the men’s and women’s programs, including a 6th place finish for the women’s team this year. He also served as the recruiting coordinator for the men’s team.

“Having Ryan Wochomurka on our coaching staff was a major leap for our program. Ryan’s experience as part of the US National Team and also as a member of the NCAA Championship team at Auburn, added a great competitive edge to our program at UofL. He is a proven winner,” said Arthur Albiero, Cardinal head coach.

Wochomurka, the fifth head coach in six years for the Cougars, will be replacing interim head coach Keith Dawley. Dawley took over in December of 2014 after the university cut ties with head coach Rich Murphy. Murphy was only there for a little over a year; he took over after Augie Busch took the Virginia job in August of 2013.

Wochomurka graduated from Auburn University in 2005 where he was a 21-time All-American and former USA National Team member. He also won a silver medal as a member of the 4×100 free relay for the United States at the 2003 FINA World Championships.
