Louisville Women Pick Up Yet Another Verbal Commitment: Michigan’s Mallory Comerford

Southwest Y Michigan’s Mallory Comerford gave a verbal commitment to University of Louisville today and will join the Cardinals’ 2015-16 squad along with recent commits Clara Baggett and Emily Moser.

The Plainwell High School senior is a Michigan state Division 3 record-holder in the 100, 200, and 500 free. Comerford won the 50 and 100 free as a freshman, then came back to dominate the 200 and 500 free as a sophomore, breaking division records in both. Although she didn’t swim her junior year, she still all three of those state high school records.

100y free: 50.14 100m free: 56.78
200y free: 1:47.60 200m free: 2:04.14
100y fly: 54.60 100m fly: 1:01.82
50y free: 23.48 50m free: 26.45
400m free: 4:23.20

Comerford should be a big contributor “right out of the box.” She is a senior or junior nationals qualifier in all the freestyle distances from 50y to 400m, as well as the 100 fly. Her 100/200 free and 100 fly times would have placed her in the top-eight at the 2014 AAC Championships, where Louisville competed last February. This season the Cardinals have moved to the ACC, a much faster conference. Yet at the 2014 ACC Championship Comerford would have scored in the C finals of the 100 fly and 100 free, and the B final of the 200 free. Additionally, she should be in a position to score points on several of Louisville’s relays.
