Baltimore — Joe HayburnCaleb KellyMichael Gozdan, and Lily Mead all won two races on Saturday as the Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams won over Bucknell University on Saturday afternoon.

The men’s swimming and diving team won 201-99 to remain unbeaten on the season. They won 14 of the 19 individual events, and also won both of the relay races.

The women’s swimming and diving team secured their first win over Bucknell in program history, with a 174-126 win. The Greyhounds women won 8 of 15 individual events and won both relay races.

Doubling Up

– The trio of Caleb KellyJoe Hayburn, and Michael Gozdan combined for 56 of the Greyhounds points, with six combined wins, plus a fourth-place finish for Hayburn.
– Kelly won the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 20.00 and won the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 44.61.
– Hayburn won in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 48.81 and also won the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:49.37. He also finished in fourth place in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:54.52.
– Gozdan won the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:04.42, while he also won the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 55.58.
– Lily Mead won the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 2:02.38 and won the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 56.30.

Winners Platform

– A total of 13 Greyhounds won on Saturday afternoon, which includes a total of seven women and six men.
– Faith Karr won the 100 Yard Freestyle in 10:32.48, more than two seconds faster than second place.
– Joe Hayburn’s win in the 200 Yard Backstroke, was 3.9 seconds faster than second place.

Photo Finish
– Max Verheyen won the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:41.25, just 0:00.01 seconds faster than his teammate, Henry Mueller.
– Frances Moser won the 100 Yard Free style in 52.61, just .1 seconds faster than teammate Charley Tulio.

Relay Wins
– Mead, Avery StimmelHaley Robinson, and Tulio led off the meet for th women, winning the 200 Yard Medley Relay in 1:42.92.
– The relay team of Stimmel, Madison Testa, Moser, and Tulio finished the meet with a win in the 400 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 3:30.07.
– For the men, the relay team of Hayburn, Verheyen, Patrick Hayburn, and Kelly won the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:29.55.
– In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay to close the meet, the relay team of Hayburn, Henry MuellerTyler Knurek, and Kelly won with a time of 3:05.50.

Up Next
– The Loyola University Maryland men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will be back in action on December 1, when the Greyhounds host the H2ounds Invitational.

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bucknell women’s swimming & diving team fell 174-126 to Loyola at Mangione Aquatic Center on Saturday. Loyola won 10 of 16 events, including both relays, and took the top two places in six events. Six Bison earned first-place finishes, including two by Sydney Dettmann. The Bison moved to 3-3 on the season with the loss.

“Loyola was prepared and had a great meet. We competed well in many place, but it was clear we need to improve more in the coming months,” said head coach Dan Schinnerer.

Results

Dettmann won both the 200 butterfly (2:05.12) and the 500 freestyle (5:06.77) to contribute 18 points towards the Bucknell effort, and she swam the second leg of the runner-up 400 freestyle relay team.

The Bison swept the diving portion of the meet and went 1-2-3 on the 3-meter board. Meghan Catherwood took first on the 1-meter (252.00), and Kate Gottwald placed first in the 3-meter (250.28). Gottwald was followed by Catherwood in second and Reggie Frias in third on the 3-meter.

Both Rylie Giles and Kyla Kelly added first-place finishes for Bucknell. Kelly won the 200 IM (2:05.98) and took fourth twice to score 13 points. Giles won the 200 freestyle (1:53.18) and placed fifth twice. She was also a member of the second-place 400 freestyle relay team.

In addition to the divers and the 400 freestyle relay, Bucknell saw three others post runner-up finishes. Talia Bugel touched the wall second in the 100 backstroke (58.19), and Emma Feld placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:03.87). Both came in just behind reigning Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week Lily Mead. Abby Doss added a second-place spot in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.34). The Bison took third place eight times.

Bucknell is off over the next two weeks before returning to competition at Kinney Natatorium the first weekend of December for its three-day Invitational.

BALTIMORE, Md. – John Gehrig touched the wall first in three events to score 27 points for the Bucknell men’s swimming & diving team, but it wouldn’t be enough as Loyola pulled out a 201-99 win at Mangione Aquatic Center Saturday.

“Loyola was prepared and had a great meet. We competed well in many place, but it was clear we need to improve more in the coming months,” said head coach Dan Schinnerer.

Results

The Greyhounds men won 11 events, including each of the first five and both relays, to hand the Bison their second defeat of the season. Along with Gehrig, Jack Krug and Alex Crossing posted victories. Bucknell also took the top two spots in the 1-meter dive and posted runner-up finishes in three events.

Gehrig captured first place in the 200 butterfly (1:49.19), the 100 butterfly (49.74) and the 200 IM (1:52.65). He also swam the final leg of Bucknell’s third-place 400 freestyle relay team.

Krug’s 266.70 on the 1-meter board was best among the field, and he was followed by teammate Connor Thurston in second (256.05). Thurston also placed second on the 3-meter board. Crossing won the 500 freestyle (5:40.80) and took second in the 100 frees, totaling 13 points towards the Bison effort.

Bucknell placed third in six more events, including another top-three place for Krug.

Bucknell is off over the next two weeks before returning to competition at Kinney Natatorium the first weekend of December for its three-day Invitational.
