BALTIMORE – Loyola University Maryland’s swimming and diving program is set to get a new season underway this weekend, as the Greyhounds travel to American for their lone road dual of the year at 12 p.m. on Saturday.

Loyola will host the diving events, which will begin at 12:30 p.m. that afternoon at Mangione Pool inside the Fitness & Aquatics Center. After this weekend, the Greyhounds will host five events, including a pair of invitationals, during the fall semester portion of their schedule.

Seventy-four letterwinners from the men’s and women’s programs are back for Loyola this season, while 34 freshmen will be making their collegiate debuts this fall. Included among the returners are former All-Patriot League performers Jimmy HayburnSung Lee and Max Verheyen.

Verheyen, Reid Hussey and Lily Mead were also named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans last year. The Patriot League Championships were not conducted in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but all three posted NCAA ‘B’ cut times and ranked among the Patriot League leaders in several events.

“We are very excited to return this fall for a full season,” head coach Brian Loeffler said. “We have large incoming classes for both the men and the women which should make us a stronger, deeper team this year.”

Loyola’s men’s program placed third at the most-recent conference meet held in 2020, the highest finish since joining the Patriot League, while the women took sixth place and had their first individual Patriot League champion (Devin Cronin – 100 breaststroke).

The Greyhounds home opener is set for Saturday, October 16, with a dual against Lehigh beginning at 1 p.m.
