LSU Welcomes Florida State and Texas A&M To the Nat

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Swimming and Diving Team will welcome Florida State to the LSU Natatorium on Friday, January 17 and Texas A&M (Senior Day) on Saturday, January 18 for the final two home meets of the season. The meet against Florida State on Friday will begin at 5 p.m. CT and the Texas A&M meet will begin at 11 a.m. CT.

LAST TIME OUT

This past week, the Tigers faced off against Missouri on Thursday, January 9 and Delta State on the following Saturday. Against Missouri, Niamh Robinson once again swept the breaststroke events for the women who defeated Mizzou by a final score of 151-149. The current 200-Yard Breast school record holder won the same event with a time of 2:10.42. She touched the wall in 1:01.35 in the 100-Yard to take the gold. Summer Stanfield swam the third fastest time in school history in the 500-Yard Free with a time of 4:48.21 to earn the victory. In the 200-Yard Back, Cassie Kalisz set a pool record with a time of 1:55.43 to claim the victory. Katarina Milutinovich, Nicole Rozier, and Helen Grossman also won races during the meet for the Tigers. Milutinovich won the 200-Yard Free with a time of 1:47.66, Rozier won the 200-Yard Fly with a time of 1:58.68, and Grossman won the 100-Yard Fly with a time of 53.94. Also for the women, Brittany Thompson came in second place in the 400-Yard IM with a time of 4:18.27, which is good for the tenth best time in school history.

On the men’s side, Karl Luht won both backstroke events while also setting pool records in both, as the men fell by a final score of 166-133. He broke his own record in the 100-Yard with a time of 46.09 and set a new record in the 200-Yard with a time of 1:42.81. Brooks Curry dominated both the 100 and 200-Yard Free as the freshman won the 100-Yard with a time of 43.96 and the 200-Yard with a time of 1:36.93. Luca Pfyffer swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100-Yard with a time of 54.67 and the 200-Yard with a time of 1:58.27. Matt Klotz touched the wall in 20.22 to win the 50-Yard Free.

On the boards, Aimee Wilson won the women’s one-meter for the third time this season with a score of 280.13. Anne Tuxen and Hayley Montague also finished on the podium. Tuxen came in second with a score of 268.80 and Montague claimed the bronze with a score of 265.35. On three-meter, Tuxen claimed the top spot for the third time this season, this time after a score of 315.60. Montague finished in fourth place with a score of 232.73.

For the men, Dakota Hurbis and Manny Vazquez Bas finished in second and third place on three-meter with scores of 325.95 and 323.55. On one-meter, Hurbis and Vazquez Bas finished in third and fourth place with scores of 291.53 and 283.43.

Against Delta State, the Tigers won 25 out of the 28 events during the meet. On the women’s side, a Tiger touched the wall first in every event and three Tigers won multiple events. Kit Hanley won the 100-Yard Free for the second time this season with a time of 52.04 and also won the 200-Yard Free with a time of 1:52.17. Katarina Milutinovich won both backstroke events as the freshman swam a 55.90 100-Yard and a 2:01.61 200-Yard. Helen Grossman rounded up the trio of milti-event winners for the women by winning the 50-Yard Free with a time of 23.92 and the 100-Yard Fly with a time of 55.14.  

On the men’s side, another three Tigers won multiple events. Lewis Clough led the way by winning three events. The senior won the 100-Yard Free with a time of 45.37, the 200-Yard Fly with a time of 1:49.61, and the 200-Yard IM with a time of 1:51.65. Isak Vikstrom won both the 500 and 1000-Yard Free with times of 4:40.80 and 9:30.97. Senior Matt Klotz rounded out the trio by winning both the 50-Yard Free and 200-Yard Back with times of 20.59 and 1:50.14.

The Tigers also walked away with wins in three relay events. The team of Cassie Kalisz, Olivia Paskulin, Grossman, and Olivia Taylor began the meet with a win in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:42.64. The men’s team of Karl Luht, Luca Pfyffer, Clough, and Klotz followed suit by winning the 200-Yard Medley with a time of 1:30.59. To close out the meet, the women’s team of Milutinovich, Hanley, Grossman, and Emily Van De Wiele won the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:27.22

FLORIDA STATE/TEXAS A&M SCOUT

On the men’s side, No. 14 Florida State comes in with a record of 4-3 overall. They have notched wins against Duke, Minnesota, Georgia Tech, and Florida Southern. No. 4 Texas A&M comes in with an overall record of 5-3 after wins against Ohio State, Boston University, Harvard, Incarnate Word, and Trinity.

For the women, Florida State comes in with a record of 5-4 with wins over Minnesota, Georgia Tech, West Florida, North Florida, and Florida Southern. No 19 Texas A&M comes in with a record of 3-2 after wins against Ohio State, Rice, and SMU.

MEET THE SENIORS

Lewis Clough

Clough is a three-time letter winner who has represented the Tigers at the last three SEC Championships. The Manchester, England native currently holds the third fastest 200-Yard Free time in school history with a 1:35.90, which he swam at the 2019 SEC Championships, the ninth fastest 200-Yard Fly time with a 1:47.35 that he swam at this season against Missouri, and the tenth fastest time in the 100-Yard Free with a time of 43.81 from the 2019 SEC Championships. He  plans to graduate in May with a degree in Advertising and a minor in History.

Keagan Finley

Finley is a three-time letter winner for the Tigers over a career that has featured three to the SEC Championships. He currently holds the fifth fastest time in school history in the 100-Yard Free with a time of 9:16.10 that he swam at the 2019 SEC Championships. Helen Grossman

Grossman is a three-time letter winner for the Tigers. Throughout her career, she has found her way on the school’s top-times list in many events. The New Jersey native holds the third fastest 200-Yard Fly time in school history with a time of 1:57.27, which she swam at the 2019 SEC Championships. She also holds the eighth best time in LSU history in the 100-Yard Fly after swimming a 53.23 at the 2019 SEC Championships. She was a part of the 400-Yard Medley Relay team that set the school record at the 2019 SEC Championships with a time of 3:33.10. Grossman plans to graduate in December with a degree in Chemical Engineering and minors in Business Administration and English.

Alexandria Ham

Ham is a three-time letterwinner for the purple and gold. She currently sits with the fifth fastest 200-Yard Backstroke time in school history after swimming a 1:56.25 at the 2019 SEC Championships. She also holds the ninth fastest time in LSU history in the 400-Yard IM with a 4:17.86 that she swam at the 2018 SEC Championships. Ham was named to the 2019 SEC Community Service Team for her efforts around Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. Ham graduated this past December with a degree in Sports Administration and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Sports Management.

Cameron Karkoska

Karkoska is a two-time letter winner that has penciled his name on to the top-times list a couple of times throughout his career wearing the purple and gold. He is currently tied for fourth all-time in the 200-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:57.22 that he swam at the 2018 SEC Championships. He holds the seventh best time in school history in the 200-Yard IM after swimming a 1:47.88 at the 2018 SEC Championships. He plans to graduate this summer with a degree in Sports Administration. After graduation, he would like to continue working in digital marketing.

Matt Klotz

Klotz is a three-time letter winner for the Tigers. Over his career, he has left his mark in the pool. He currently sits at number two all-time in the 50-Yard Free and the 200-Yard Back with times of 19.55 and 1:43.52 that he swam at the 2019 SEC championships and at the 2019 SMU Invitational. He also sits at number four in the 100-Yard Back with a time of 47.00 that he swam at this year’s SMU Invitational. This past summer, his time in the 100-Meter Back, a 54.79, at the Phillips 66 Summer National Championships broke his own Deaf World Record. He will graduate with his degree in Sports Administration.

Karl Luht

Luht is a three-time letter winner for the Tigers. Over his career, he has put a dent in the LSU Top-Times list. He set the school record in the 100-Yard Back at the 2019 SEC Championships with a time of 45.58. He swam the second best time in school history in the 200-Yard Free at the 2019 SEC Championships with a time of 1:35.11. He also holds the ninth best time in school history in the 100-Yard Free with a time of 43.72 from the 2019 NCAA Championships. He is also a member of the school record holding 200 and 400-Yard Medley Relay teams. Luht will graduate in May with a degree in Finance.

Olivia Paskulin

Paskulin is a three-time letter winner for LSU. Throughout her career, she has found herself on the top-times list twice. She holds the fourth best time in school history in the 100-Yard Breast with a time of 1:00.10 that she swam at the 2019 SEC Championships and the sixth best time in the 200-Yard Breast with a time of 2:14.25 from the same SEC Championships. She will graduate in December with a degree in Marketing and a minor in Communications.

Nicole Rozier

Rozier is a three-time letter winner for the Tigers. She currently sits on the top-times list in three different events. She holds the second fastest 200-Yard IM time in school history with a 1:57.21 from the 2019 SEC Championships. She swam the sixth fastest time in school history in the 100-Yard Fly at the 2019 SEC Championships with a 52.97 and the sixth fastest time in the 200-Yard Fly with a 1:57.58, also at the 2019 SEC Championships. She will graduate in May with a degree in May with a degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Chemistry.
