LSU’s Braden Nyboer Nominated For 2021 McWhorter Award

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (April 27, 2021) – Nicole Decker of the LSU beach volleyball team and Braden Nyboer of the Tiger men’s swimming team have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by Louisiana State University.

The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league’s top male and female scholar-athletes.

The Southeastern Conference will name the 2021 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on May 18.

  • President’s Honor Roll, 2018
  • Tiger Nation Scholarship, 2017-2021
  • Academic Scholars Non-Resident Award, 2017-2021
  • Pontiff Award recipient, which honors those with the highest GPA among all LSU student-athletes, 2019
  • SEC Academic Honor Roll, 2017-2020
  • Dean’s List, 2019
  • Student Athlete Medallion Recipient, 2017-2020
  • LSU Student Athlete of the Month, June 2017
  • Went 5-0 throughout her career on the exhibition court competing for LSU Beach Volleyball

BRADEN NYBOER, LSU, Swimming
Major: Biochemistry

  • Carries a cumulative GPA of 3.96
  • Biochemistry major in addition to a minor in Business
  • Four-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, 2018-2021
  • President’s Honor Roll, 2020
  • Two-time member of the LSU Dean’s List, 2018, 2019
  • Pontiff Award recipient, which honors those with the highest GPA among all LSU student-athletes, 2019
  • Notched 24 top-ten finishes in the pool throughout his career in various freestyle events
  • Three career victories, including two against SEC rival Texas A&M

The SEC provides the league’s male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Post-Graduate Scholarship recipients with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.

The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions and are announced in May.

Last year’s McWhorter Award recipients were LSU men’s basketball member Skylar Mays and Kentucky swimmer Asia Seidt.
