Lucas Brock, Morgan Quesnel Win Double at RedHawks’ Intrasquad

The Miami RedHawks kicked off their season with their intrasquad meet. The freshmen women impressed by picking up a stack of 2nd and 3rd place finishes. The men saw double wins from Ross Rybakowicz and Lucas Brock. Brock put up a pair of 1:57s to win the 200 IM and 200 fly.

Men:

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami men’s swimming and diving opened up its 2015-16 season with the annual Red & White Intrasquad Meet in the Nixon Aquatic Center Saturday morning.

Today’s exhibition meet gave the freshmen an opportunity to get the swing of things. Newcomer Nick Potter took second place in the 1000-yard freestyle, just behind junior Bryan McNamara, who touched the wall after 10:05.43. Freshman Robert Newman claimed second in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 53.11. In the 200-yard IM, newcomer Jake Precious finished in just over two minutes time, earning him second place.

Highlighting the returning swimmers were sophomore Ross Rybakowicz and junior Lucas Brock, each turning in two individual first-place finishes. Rybakowicz earned first in the 200-yard fly (1:57.71) and 200-yard IM (1:57.42). Brock claimed first in the 100-yard freestyle (46.81) as well as the 50-yard freestyle (21.10).

Newcomer Harrison Moncino made a splash in the diving competition with a first-place finish in the one-meter competition with a score of 199.87 points and second in the three-meter collecting a total of 192.74. Junior Cole Fryman earned first in the three-meter, tallying 205.64 points. The diving squad also welcomed another freshman to the team, Ryan Nash, who claimed fourth in the three-meter competition with his score of 188.63.

It was back and forth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, where White team B ultimately came out on top, edging out the Red team A by two-tenths of a second. White team B members Peter Simcox, Jacob Prodoehl, Jonathan Brooks and Precious clocked a final time of 3:09.57.

Looking ahead, the men have some time off to prepare for a co-ed meet against Xavier on Oct. 17 in the Nixon Aquatic Center.

Women:

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami University’s women’s swimming and diving team opened up its season with the annual Red and White intrasquad meet at the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday morning.

The RedHawks welcomed seven freshmen to the team this season, one of which had a spectacular outing in her first meet. Kelsey High finished in second place in both the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard IM.

Other impressive freshmen included Sarah Wolanske, Grace Van Fossen and Peyton Mosbaugh. Wolanske touched the wall third in the 100-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. Van Fossen placed second in the 100-yard butterfly and third in the 200-yard freestyle. Mosbaugh clocked in third in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard butterfly.

“It was neat seeing the freshmen in their first Miami meet. They really stepped it up and I was impressed with quite a few of them.” head coach, Mark Davis said, “It’s getting that first time of the Love and Honor, doing the team cheer and the fight song in that meet situation. It’s great excitement for our team.”

NCAA runner-up, junior, Pei Lin, started off her 2015-16 campaign strongly, winning the three-meter dive and the one-meter dive.

Juniors Logan Klinsky and Stephanie LeMire had an impressive showing, each winning two individual events and a relay. Klinsky won the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle. LeMire won the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke.

The other two-race winner on the day was sophomore, Morgan Quesnel, who swept the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard butterfly.

The RedHawks will open up their competitive schedule on Oct. 16 against Purdue at the Nixon Aquatic Center.
