Luke Ellis closed out the 2025 Justin Sectionals in style with his performance in the 1650 free on Sunday. He threw down a time of 14:40.01 in the 1650 free, the fastest time in the country this season within the 17-18 age group. Although not a best time, Ellis’s swim marked a significant season best, about 10 seconds faster than his time at the CA/NV Speedo Winter Sectionals in December, and is over five seconds faster than the previous top time in this season (14:45.58).
Taking the runner-up spot was Sandpipers of Nevada teammate Gabriel Manteufel, who previously held the top time in the event this season. Manteufel touched in 14:43.69, a season best performance, but was unable to chase down Ellis to hold onto the #1 ranking.
Olympic medalist Claire Weinstein turned in another top-ranking performance on day four to wrap up her weekend of racing. Weinstein posted a time of 15:59.81 in the 1650 free, winning the race by over 26 seconds and picking up her 4th gold medal of the competition. Despite being 8 seconds off of her lifetime best, Weinstein’s time marked a season best performance for her and 3rd among 17-18 girls in the country this season.
The runner-up behind Weinstein was Texas Ford Aquatic’s Ava Pape, who turned in a lifetime best time of 16:26.23 and knocked almost 14 seconds off of her previous top time (16:40.06) that was set just a few months ago at the Winter Junior Championship in December.
Sunday’s finals session continued to bring the excitement, as Lakeside Aquatic’s Maximus Williamson picked up two more wins, bringing his total number of golds to seven. Williamson secured back-to-back victories in the 200 IM (1:45.82) and 50 free (19.54). The only other competitor to go sub-20 in the 50 free was First Colony Swim Team’s John Boysen, who posted a time of 19.92.
Streamline Aquatics’ Jaylee Hager contested another impressive array of back-to-back races, taking on the 100 back, 200 IM and 50 free all in short succession. Hager finished 4th in the 200 IM (2:03.34), 8th in the 50 free (23.46) and 15th in the 100 back (56.72), helping to rack up some points for her team.
Liberty Clark completed a sweep of the sprint freestyle events with her win in the 50 free, racing into the wall in 22.64 to narrowly beat out runner-up Ella Mongenel (22.70). The performance landed Clark her 7th victory of the meet; she had already picked one up earlier in the 400 medley relay alongside Pleasanton Seahawks teammates Daniela Linares Danzos, Raya Mellott and Katrin Otaegi.
