Chattanooga, Tennessee-native Luke Massey has announced he will remain in-state next year to swim for the Volunteers. He will join a University of Tennessee class of 2022 that also includes commits Eien Mcgee, Ethan Sanders, and Michael Houlie.

Massey is a breaststroker who currently swims for Aaron Academy and under head coach Roger Dahlke at McCallie / GPS Aquatics. A USA Swimming All-American and NISCA All-American, he was runner-up in the 100 breast (55.32) and placed sixth in the 50 free (21.34) at last month’s 2018 TISCA High School Championships. In club swimming, Massey is coming off a successful outing at the 2018 NCSA Spring Championship, where he finished fifth in the 50 breast and 12th in the 100 breast; he also competed in the 50 free and 200 breast, and swam legs on all five McCallie / GPS Aquatics relays. At Winter Juniors East he was a B finalist in the 100 breast and went PBs in the 50 free, 100 breast, and 200 breast. So far this spring, he’s already lowered his best times in the 50/100 free, 50 back, 100 breast, and 200 IM.

When did Dahlke take over as head or sr level coach at McCallie/GPS? I know they used to be called Scenic City Aquatics and he was always the head of the age groupers. I would have thought that Luke would have trained with the McCallie team at McCallie but I am 10+ years removed from the swimming scene in Chattanooga so I dont know anymore. Isn’t Cochran still there? Just wondering, and I always did like Roger, from what I could tell he was great with the younger kids from back in my day. Happy he is still there and seeing success.
